Headed by Mr. Lawrence Oberhaus, the International Committee for the Red Cross Lahore visited the Central Secretariat of Minhaj-ul-Quran International in Model Town the other day and held a meeting with acting Secretary General of MQI Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz, naib Amir Brig. (r) Iqbal Ahmad and naib Nazim-e-Ala G.M. Malik. Secretary Information of MQI Qazi Faiz-ul-Islam, Director Public Relations Jawad Hamid, Programme Officer ICRC Zia-ur-Rehman, Muhammad Younis and Najam-ul-Haq were also present on the occasion.
The delegation paid a detailed visit to different directorates and offices of the central secretariat. Talking on the occasion, Lawrence Oberhaus said that we, at ICRC, held the services of Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri in high esteem. He said that MQI under the leadership of Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has rendered remarkable services for promotion of peace, education and human welfare. He said that given the critical challenges facing humanity, there was an acute need of promoting the culture of tolerance, moderation and peaceful coexistence so that the forces representing violence, terrorism and extremism should be defeated. The delegation consisted of Head of Wider World Team Dr Rhydian Philips, Islamic Issues Adviser Maqbool Ali both related to Islamic World Group, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Matthew Forman Second Secretary (Political) from the British High Commission, Natasha Khan from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Dr Sahzia Malik, Obstetrician and Gynecologist Birmingham University Associate Professor, Dr Tahir Abbas, Director of Islamic Relief UK, Jahangir Malik, Psychiatrist Rabia Malik, Shaaz Mehboob, Doctor and head of Muslims for Secular Democracy Group.
