Deputy Chairman, Board of Governors, Minhaj University Lahore, and President, Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Prof. Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri delivered an intellectually stimulating keynote session at The Lounge, INCEIF University, Kuala Lumpur, titled “Fair Wage or Fair Soul?”, offering a profound re-evaluation of global labor laws through the lens of Shariah-compliant principles in the modern economy.
In his address, Prof. Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri emphasized that the true architecture of prosperity lies in how societies treat their weakest segments, particularly labor. He underscored that Islamic economic thought places human dignity at the center of economic systems, viewing labor not merely as a factor of production but as a moral trust (amānah).
He further elaborated on labor rights as ethical obligations, stressing equality of opportunity, social security, transparent employment contracts, and timely and fair wages. Reflecting on Pakistan’s labor framework, he underscored the urgent need to modernize colonial-era laws to protect informal and vulnerable workers.
Prof. Dr. Hussain Qadri also urged the Islamic finance industry to move beyond asset growth and focus on tangible social impact, particularly by empowering SMEs and strengthening the resilience of vulnerable households.
The session offered a powerful convergence of economic insight, ethical responsibility, and Islamic intellectual tradition, contributing meaningfully to contemporary debates on justice, labor, and sustainable development.
The session was also attended by Prof. Dr. Mansor H. Ibrahim (Dean, SGPS, INCEIF University), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maya Puspa Rehman (Associate Dean, Curriculum and Accreditation), Abdul Rasool Bhatti (President, Minhaj Asian Council), Faisal Hussain Mashadi (Managing Director, Minhaj Welfare Foundation), along with faculty members and postgraduate scholars of INCEIF University.
