On the 16th of April, Shaykh Hammad Mustafa al-Madani al-Qadri addressed the sixth segment of the webinar series “The Modern Times and Historic Ways”, in which he discussed the topic of “Fiqh al-Qulub”.
The Heart is central to our spiritual being. It is through the Heart that we can connect with Allah and feel His divine presence. Fiqh al-Qulub, also known as the jurisprudence of the Heart or the spiritual science of the Heart, is the understanding and dissection of the Heart, in which we unfold and unpack the various moods, perspectives, ups and downs, the righteousness, the piety, but also the diseases and sins of the Heart.
According to the Holy Qur’an (9:2), the believers are those whose hearts, when Allah is mentioned, are filled with awe at the idea of Allah’s Greatness and Might. Their hearts tremble with love and fear, in a state that is both hoping to receive and attain the mercy of Allah, but also a state which fears Allah, His punishment, and wrath.
Shaykh Hammad Mustafa stated that Allah selects people whose hearts have been diseased. If they remain in a constant state of sinning and disobedience, their diseased hearts become dead. However, those hearts Allah chooses and selects for a second life, He creates a light upon and by which these people tread and walk. In their lives, whatever they do, say, think; alas whatever is in their conscious and beneath that in their unconscious minds, they are guided by Allah’s light in their thoughts and actions.
The condition to receive this great bounty and blessing, however, is to reconnect our hearts with Allah. Our hearts have lost their connection, the proximity, the deep sentiment, the deep longing, contentment and lost the signals and connection with our Creator. Due to constant sinning, disobedience, forgetfulness and heedlessness, our hearts are riddled with disease. If we do not rectify and cure this disease, they become dead.
The Shaykh further said that those who have received this light are not only enlightened but also a source of illumination and guidance for others, due to embodying the reflections of the divine light. They become a manifestation of obeying Allah’s commandments, how to refrain from prohibitions, how to seek His desire and pleasure, and how to achieve His love.
We must therefore find and attach ourselves to these pious and righteous people, the awliyāʾ and the sāliḥīn, so that we may also receive Allah’s special blessings. Through observing, listening, and following their example, we may also receive His divine blessings. So that He may select our hearts to rejuvenate and revive.
Shaykh Hammad Mustafa emphasised that in order to have a spiritually alive and awake heart, we must perform righteous deeds, spend time reciting the verses of the Holy Quran, spend time reciting the blessed names of Allah, we must indulge and engulf ourselves with the dhikr of Allah. We must engage in the service of humanity, for there is no greater deed on this planet than the service of humanity. Consequently, Allah the believers who perform these acts with sincerity another life, i.e., a spiritual life. Allah will rejuvenate, illuminate, and enlighten their hearts.
In his concluding remarks, Shaykh Hammad Mustafa al-Madani al-Qadri congratulated the organisers of the webinar. He prayed for the success of this series and its participants.
