Jordan: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri addresses International Sirah Conference 2016

Attending the three-day International Sirah Conference in Jordan, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that the religious scholars, jurists and Muftis can play an important role to bridge the gap in the Muslim world. He said that the fires of sectarianism and hatred are being fanned under a political strategy with an objective to drive more wedges. He said that conspiracy is afoot to undermine the Islamic world politically, economically and military power of the Islamic countries.

The International Sirah Conference continued from October 23 to October 25 in the capital of Jordan. It was arranged by Royal Aal Al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, which was attended by leading scholars, Mashaykh, Muftis and intellectuals who presented their papers in different sessions.

Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri represented Pakistan in the Conference. He reached Oman, the capital, from London on October 22 one day before its formal start. The inaugural session of the Conference got underway on October 23 in which the participants exchanged views on the contemporary challenges facing the Islamic world.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri delivered his keynote address at the Conference under the subject of “Parallel status of the Holy Quran and Sunna in implementation of Commandments”. He said that the Muslim world can regain its lost glory by acting upon the teachings of the Quran and Sunna alone. He said that resort to the basic sources of Islam is inevitable in this regard.

Dr Qadri underlined the need of establishment of peace in the Muslim lands, stating that socio-economic progress cannot happen unless peace is restored on sustainable basis. He said that terrorist groups that were established in the name of Islam are distorting its teachings and bringing our great faith into disrepute. He said that these outfits are actually helpful to the anti-Islam forces in the fulfillment of their agenda. He said that there is a dire need of a great debate among the Islamic countries to fight off the contemporary challenges.

Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri also called on King Abdullah of Jordan. The matters relating to terrorism, evolving situation in the Middle East, and the challenges facing the Muslim world came under discussion in the meeting. Both leaders agreed that there is a need to make renewed efforts to eliminate the terrorism perpetrated in the name of Islam. They said that the Islamic world is duty bound to make sure that the name of our great religion is not abused by the terrorist and extremists organizations and that they are eliminated forthwith.

Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Shaykh Muhammad Ahmad Hussein, Muhaddith Syria Shaykh Muhammad Al-Yaqoubi, Abdullah bin Bayyah, Shaykh Ali Juma of Egypt, Mufti-e-Yemen Sheikh Muhammad bin Al-Hafiz, Sheikh Habib Ali Al-Jifri and other leading scholars called on Dr Qadri on the margins of the Conference.

While talking to the leading scholars, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri highlighted the imperative of forging brotherhood, and solidarity among the Muslim countries. He said that the Islamic countries need to rise above their local interests and work for greater causes. He said that Islam is under attack from several sources and it is everyone’s responsibility to protect it.
